THE WHARE AT WAIHINGA

Welcome to “The Whare” located in the heart of Waihinga farm, 2km from Martinborough. The Whare is newly renovated in one of Waihinga’s many quaint, colonial buildings and contains everything you need for a grand weekend escape in the Wairarapa.

The space

The Whare is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom space, new in an old building. Stylish, warm, and rather inviting. There is oodles of natural light throughout and beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed on the deck. The surrounding space is well planted and affords privacy during your stay, although the odd motorbike or farm machine may pass. There is plenty of space for vehicles big and small , trailers etc. Whether it be a quiet weekend, social weekend, accommodation for a wedding or just a trip to the country, The Whare will accommodate you in style and comfort.

Guest access

You gain access to all the amenities the Whare contains. With all the natural light the studio captures, it is naturally a warm and inviting space. A cute wee kitchen space affords most of what you need for your stay. The bathroom has been designed by Prue and thankfully sports unusually strong shower pressure for a rural property. Nestled in the corner is also a lovely wee fire to use on cool evenings or frosty mornings during winter (beware, the fire is highly efficient and a window may need to be opened).

The Whare is based on our property which is an established working farm. If you choose to explore, some sounds, smells and sights may be a little unfamiliar, but that’s part of the adventure. Being the first farm out of town means you will have access to the best of both worlds. Rural peace and quiet, animals, walking tracks and a beautiful river on the farm are all at your fingertips, however the many cafes, vineyards and restaurants are only a 10 minute bike ride or 2 minute car ride away. The Ruamahanga river has great trout fishing and you are welcome to access the 6km+ of river that runs through the bottom of the farm. We have a local trout guide able to guide you to suitable spots and to assist you to trout fish is you require, for an additional fee.

Well controlled pets are also welcome by negotiation and will love the rural setting to stretch their legs.

Other things to note

This is a full-time working farm. Pete may come past in his side x side in the morning (7am onwards) on his way to work. Feel free to engage with Pete as he loves to talk about what he does. One or two brave guests have even taken him up on his offer to accompany him on a stock shift or two.

Waihinga farm currently has two incumbent (Working/Pet) dogs called Rex & Meg. These two are rather partial to a pat and are well socialised with children & other dogs. The dogs are usually off their leash during the day however if this makes you uncomfortable through your stay then we happily house them, or they respond well to being told to bugger off!!
The whare is still a work in progress for landscaping. A never ending job we are working at!
